Born in the family of a peasant of the Khongorsky family on February 8 in the ulus of Nygda Alar district of the Irkutsk region. In October, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. He participated in hostilities by the commander of the machine gun branch, and during the breakthrough of the front line of the Nazi troops on the Austrian-Chekhoslovak border, he commanded a reserve battalion.

The war for him ended in May, 32 km from Prague. After demobilization, he entered the Irkutsk Agricultural Institute, after which he worked as a teacher of the agricultural college. In the pre -Olympic competitions in Lviv, he took fourth place, and at the training camp in Vyborg he set a new record of the USSR, which became the number of one in the national team. The bullets had to shoot in the new exercise “Running Deer” for them.

Our Olympian hero liked to recall this exercise often. It was new and tricky for him. For some reason, Strelkov from the USSR was not invited to a final shooting. He appeared unexpectedly above the horizon, there was no point in the sight, and moved more slowly, sometimes appeared his tail forward. It is hard to imagine how one could adapt to such a “running deer”.

As a result, it turned out with one training. With a simple army rifle, Peter Pavlovich entered the main line.

According to the sum of points by single and double shots, he turned out to be the seventh and entered the ten strongest bullets in the world, while setting two all -Union records. Three years later, he became a winner of international rifle competitions in Beijing. He participated in the first sports day of the peoples of the USSR, became a winner. As part of the national team of the Russian Federation, he won four times at the championships of the USSR, was its captain and public coach at the exercise “Running Deer”.

Pyotr Pavlovich did a lot to develop this sport with us, in Buryatia. As the chairman of the Rifle Sports of the Republic, a member of the Russian and All -Union federations, the regional committee of the DOSAAF of the Oblosovet “Reverse”, regardless of his free time and another vacation, he prepared nine masters of sports. The culture that I, being his student, knew on myself. He was a wise person, never raised the voices of his students, focused on gray hair and on babies, students, and jeanries who listened to their idol with open mouths. Since the beginning of the nineties, a traditional tournament for bullet shooting of the memory of Peter Pavlovich Nikolaev has been held. That was my teacher, a person with a capital letter, Peter Pavlovich Nikolaev.
