There is a settlement of Narovlya, but not in Ukraine, but in Belarus. Nevertheless, I wrote in a set. The answer came from Yelsk. Lieutenant Colonel Shinkevich, who later became one of my active assistants in search of materials about the Korzun.

In particular, it was he who took out his genuine photograph. In the picture, which for many years was considered a portrait of Korzun and even hung in the museum, as it turned out, he was not depicted at all. Lieutenant Colonel Shinkevich later admitted that he helped me not only on duty, but also as a participant in the defense of Leningrad. Already after the first letter of the regional military committee, it became clear that the regimental clerk mistakenly crossed the Gomel region into Poltava, and the village of Dubrov in Dubrovka.

As for the Narovlyansky district, such, indeed, once existed, and then merged with Yelsky. And, of course, it is nice that a long search ended with a meeting with the hero’s daughter. It’s only a pity that it turned out so unsuccessfully with the street. Trying to reassure Maria Andreevna, I convinced her that new streets were growing in our city quickly. She looked back at the brand new buildings nearby, then asked: - And where did he fight?

It is easy to answer this question. I can explain exactly where everything happened. The colleagues of Korzun told me about this, in particular the former commander of the artillery regiment Ivan Alekseevich Potiforov. The story of Konstantin Petrovich Smirnov was especially detailed. Now he is heading the department at the Leningrad Textile Institute, and then, in November, the forty -third, was the commander of a fire platoon.

He remembers everything perfectly, and even indicated the place where Andrei Korzuna stood. Why, however, to explain to Maria Andreevna, where there were firing positions of the sixth battery when we can go there? We tram to the forest port is not so far. The berths are loaded with timber trucks. Mighty cranes lower the whole stacks of boards into their immense holds and in the forty -third year there were heavy guns of counter -battery struggle. When the Nazis opened fire on Leningrad, our gunners beat from here at the enemy batteries. And very often, the shells intended for the city flew to these fire positions - the Germans endured the fire.

It happened that up to two hundred shells per day was torn here. What a pity that there was no one of the fellow soldiers of Andrei Grigoryevich Korzun with us! They would tell his daughters all the details of these battles. There is nothing to be done, I had to retell what at one time I learned from Korzun's colleagues. From all the regiment he heard from the former commander of the regiment, the details of the three battles of the fall of the forty -third year were especially remembered.

One shell fell into the shelter behind which there was a gun. Fortunately, the fragments whistled past Korzun, and he continued to fire on the German battery. With a few exact hits, he made her shut up. Undoubtedly, ammunition was blown up. And on November 5, Korzun performed a feat, about which in the regiment to this newly arrived soldier is still told. November holidays were approaching.

The batteries recalled what was done on such days before the war.

Having covered the non -trained plank table with the newspaper, Korzun said: “It happened that these days in every hut they boil and fried.” Then they are going to listen to the report to the collective farm club, to see the concert. And now a muffled shot was alerted by everyone. Following the shot somewhere behind the gap crashed. The soldiers rushed to the gun. Behind the first shell, the second, third whistled.

The shelling of Leningrad intensified. The sixth battery opened fire. Our shells clearly hit the target. The two most active enemy batteries fell silent. Korzun rejoiced. So, again they gave the Nazis to light up! But it was too early to rejoice. An enemy embittered by failure brought down a fire on the sixth battery from different directions. The shelling was so strong that the calculations were ordered to hide.

Just in case, only one duty officer remained near the guns. Korzun just fell out. Seeing that shells are very close, he responded fire. He brought it himself, he loaded himself, he himself fired. A fragment of the shell Andrei Korzun was seriously wounded. Another red -hot fragment lit gun charges.
