This is still not the most typical specialty. Most often, the answer to the question “Why is the philfak? Classical philology rarely appears as an option. The fact is that at school I studied at the physical education, my whole family was representatives of accurate and technical sciences, and I was completely sure that I would go to the VMK. But somehow in the summer, one science fiction book fell into my hands, where there were epigraphs in Latin.
And I uttered out loud: if I would someday learn not how to write, but at least read in this language. Magic happened, and the desire, in general, was fulfilled. Literally the next year I received an invitation from one gymnasium with a cultural bias. Moreover, you know, they did very interestingly: they had lectures for schoolchildren. I studied in the 8th grade and had to go to a completely different school after lessons, where very charismatic teachers talked about culture and, in general, about the humanities.
I had a good school before, but maybe it was the humanitarian side that was not enough. And then it carried me away, and I transferred, despite the protests of others. Here, probably, it is worth calling the name of Vladimir Vladislavovich Glebkin, such an amazing person who made this cultural project and continues to lead him to this day. By the way, they collaborate with our faculty: someone sometimes looks at them and tells schoolchildren.
This is free, you go, if interested, attend lectures, if you like, and then translate. At the same time, such a system implied that university teachers worked for them. There were even term papers for schoolchildren. Of course, now it sounds a little naive, it is still very difficult for schoolchildren to reach out to the university level, but this is such a hit for the future.
And there I met my future supervisor - Alexei Igorevich Lyubzhin. We came together on the basis of the Latin language. Although at that moment, by the way, I was sure that since I had moved to the humanitarian sphere, I had to go to Otip. But it was Alexei Igorevich who carried me away with classical philology. In particular, in one of the coursework, he gave me a task, from which later the publication in the Vakovsky magazine was obtained.
This is also an important part of the pedagogical work. On the one hand, at school-and this is true with students, but it is especially felt in school-you can’t give unsolved tasks, large-scale research like “History of such and such a language”. Even a doctoral dissertation is not everyone can consider this topic. And some sin in schools: they give a loud topic, but in reality the student does not have tools for this.
On the other hand, the opposite pole is to give a too simple topic, a trivial task, which is clear, how to solve, they say, here is the school level. At the same time, the teacher properly slips the tools, but does not write work for you. Then it covers an amazing feeling and I want to do it further. Perhaps this was my way to classical philology. We may not be very lucky with the fact that in high school we often changed literature teachers.
Each had their own method, and it was quite difficult to get used to it. Plus, this is all in a nervous environment: compositions must be written, prepared for admission ... In general, there were difficulties with literature, so I have five in the certificate, but the half -year deprived me of a medal. However, I do not regret it, it is rather as a fact of a biography. It was quite funny to go to the faculty, connected just with the subject with which the school had the most difficulties.
Although, perhaps, there is a certain principle in this. My father said that you need to make efforts to the fact that you are the worst of all. And you will pierce precisely on what pushed pushed and said "not mine." I myself was like this with the piano, and it did not affect the well, including on my attitude to the instrument. I saw a whole kaleidoscope of methods. In general, among the discussions “why the Philfak”, “how applied”, “how much is this applied” often converge that foreign languages are useful, and the Russian department is teachers for the school.
And the classic? He is not only about classical philology. This is generally common recently the idea that education should be almost oriented and give a specific skill, and ideally, prepare for a specific workplace, as they like to say now. For example, there is a “secretary-translator” position, which means that the university should have such a specialty-“secretary-translator”, where a person has unlearned and immediately goes to work there.
In fact, this approach humiliates the idea of the university. The university should give such an education so that people can create new jobs, new areas, change their lives, or at least work in the places that will arise in the future. That is, we don’t know what will be needed in 10 years now, but higher education should be of such a high level that these people can start working there.
Here the simplest example is programmers.I don’t know what the situation looks like now, but I know the situation of the previous generation. All of them were easily able to rebuild and now work because they owned the basics of how to do it. And what programming language will be used and what specific application they develop - this will already be decided along the way.
True, it is not very patriotic, because for the most part they parted and work perfectly abroad. But this is me to the fact that they never had problems with employment, because people knew the foundations, not a specific craft. Also, in my opinion, with the humanities. When they ask me during the open door, “what profession we teach,” I usually answer that we teach a person who can work with texts.
Accordingly, any work where work is needed with texts, written or oral is a potential place for a philologist. How specifically it will be called-secretary, translator, referent, correspondent, journalist, editor or somehow-already secondary. At one time, for this, we just did the project “Philologist in modern society”, we recorded several interviews. He is about this-how philologists work differently.
But it is also interesting that they have in common. The core of the education that they have allowed someone to work on television, and someone in the PR service of a large IT company. I still remember our graduate, by the way - the Russian department, when she told me that it is much easier to retrain a philologist on a PR man than teaching a PR man to write correctly, despite the fact that the PR man already knows many professional tricks, tricks, and a technician.
It is easier to teach a philologist to understand technical subtleties than the developer forced to write. This is exactly what is called fundamental education. The problem is that this is such a game "long." You get some kind of education now, and how to apply and modify it for activities-it will only become clear later. Not everyone is ready for this, many such uncertainty scares. Everyone wants it to be clearly written: now I will hand over such and such items, I will receive a diploma called that, and a workplace with the same name and such a salary.
This is a simplification, of course. This is a carrot in front of a donkey, or something, everyone wants to have it. There are countries that are trying to solve this problem. At one time in Germany, I was surprised that they have a lot of students study precisely on classical philology, and in a special unit. They are divided purely scientific training and scientific and pedagogical.
This means that in the curriculum, about a third of subjects are devoted to pedagogy, and these issues must go to state examination. And if you choose a “pure” undergraduate, scientific, then it will not be there, only special subjects. But everyone chooses the pedagogical unit, because after that you go to the teacher to the gymnasium, and the teacher in the gymnasium has a stable salary.
It is above average, it quite provides a normal level, not luxurious, but well -fed, and most importantly, complete social guarantees. You can be sure that if you don’t do anything, you will be kept to retirement, and then pay a pension. Do not reduce, nothing like that. A person’s life path is drawn - it soothes. It is clear that there are people who have an adventurist vein, but for everyone else this is what the doctor prescribed.
You can stand on clear rails, do your job and get a result. Of course, I think that in our country such certainty is not enough, and this part of the youth will disorient. They usually say that the language, on the one hand, is quite complicated ...
- Which of the? Everyone is a little in his own way. They are complicated enough to force them to train. There is a whole genre of apology of ancient languages as intellectual simulators. I just note this thought, I do not want to talk about it in detail, because this topic is said very, very much. Such a perfect gym. This, on the one hand, on the other hand, it so happened that ancient civilization underlies European civilization and our Russian culture, statehood, is so to say so in the part in which it is European, and this is a significant part, nevertheless, you will agree.
Although this is more to the Russians, is it true - to track ancient influence? And why was the antiquity at the basis that it is so attractive, interesting in it, that two thousand years can not leave it alone: they return, revive it all the time, then specially, on the contrary, ruffle, open it again, some are trying to philosophize ... This is also a subject of scientific research, but, as far as I know, there is still no accurate answer - why it happened, why is it antiquity.
And again, due to endless response to antiquity, the one who studied it gets access to this part of the culture. Therefore, I always say: you see how great - you can learn the language both interesting and intellectually useful, and also the key to treasures.At one time, I was very struck by a girl who for a second did not think about the priority of directions upon admission, but immediately wrote a classic, Byzantine and new Greek and all.
She was not interested in anything else. Since I am interested in how the fate of our graduates later develops, I can say that graduates of the Russian branch very often achieve great success.
